Let the Games Begin
“Two kings stand tall on the battlefield, challenging one another as their troops hold ground. Armies of mighty pawns, rooks, bishops and knights wait for their queen’s commands. The battle begins at dawn and concludes with the victorious king standing.”
Play of Light and Shadow
The beginning of the game is marked by the first beam of light hitting the ground. As the game proceeds, the elegant stepped profiles of the Arena interact with light to draw cascading shadows on the ground. The depths and modulations in the surfaces are accentuated with these shadows. Simple and asymmetric forms give them a rhythm as they spread across the ground.
Distinct Architectural Designs
The marked floor governs the positions of the chessmen who wear architectural armor, each representing their position in the army. As the chessmen move fiercely, they are accompanied by their shadows, each playing their own distinct battle.
Meet the Studio
"Material Immaterial Studio is built on the basic principles of the bare beauty of materials. We are minimalist; the approach has always been to leave out rather than what to put in. This reduction process is what takes us through a mirror, emerging out on the other side to discover the richness and the sense of release that comes from allowing space to be unencumbered by visual distractions."
